Examination & Testing

Due to the safety critical nature of storing gases at high pressures all transportable pressure equipment must undergo a periodic examination. The period for the test varies with the gas and cylinder type and can be found in ADR Table P200 and are also referenced in a number of standards including BS EN 1968:2002, Transportable gas cylinder - Periodic inspection and testing of seamless steel gas cylinder, annex B.

External defect messurement The main procedures for periodic inspection and test are:

  • Identification of cylinder
  • External examination
  • Internal examination
  • Inspection of threads and neck area
  • Pressure test or ultrasonic test
  • Inspection of valves
  • Painting and re-assembly
  • Rejection and rendering cylinders unserviceable
  • It is critical that companies performing this work are fully accredited to ensure that systems and processes are adequate, ensuring the ongoing safety of the pressure equipment. Jackson Keay are a UKAS accredited company and an Approved Body, appointed by the HSE, and will guarantee all our inspection and examination services.
