Examination & Testing

Due to the safety critical nature of storing gases at high pressures all transportable pressure equipment must undergo a periodic examination. The period for the test varies with the gas and cylinder type and can be found in ADR Table P200 and are also referenced in a number of standards including BS EN 1968:2002, Transportable gas cylinder - Periodic inspection and testing of seamless steel gas cylinder, annex B.

External defect messurement The main procedures for periodic inspection and test are:

Identification of cylinder

External examination

Internal examination

Inspection of threads and neck area

Pressure test or ultrasonic test

Inspection of valves

Painting and re-assembly

Rejection and rendering cylinders unserviceable
